Too many people quit right before they get a breakthrough. A lack of perseverance is a common cause of failure.
The following story illustrates how perseverance can be a difference maker.
There was a man named R.U. Darby who set out to find riches during the gold rush in America. (Three Feet From Gold, by Sharon Lechter). He and his uncle went out west to begin their journey. They tested an area by panning for gold and were encouraged by the results. So the men went back to their hometowns and raised money from friends and family for drilling equipment.
Initially they were met with success and found gold. But along the journey something happened – they kept coming up empty. After many failed attempts, R.U. Darby and his uncle gave up.
Another gold seeker got an engineer to survey the land and bought up their equipment. The man discovered that R.U. Darby was three feet away from hitting a massive amount of gold! This new discovery led to millions in profits for the man.
Never Give Up
But the story doesn’t end there. Instead of being bitter, R.U. Darby learned from this lesson. He tried his hand at a new business of selling life insurance. He was determined to never quit again. When he was met with a ‘no’ he simply moved on to find someone who would say yes. He wound up consistently making a million dollars a year selling life insurance.
Consider the following quote. “God is not unjust; He will not forget your work…We want each of you to show the same diligence to the very end, so that what you hope for may be fully realized.”
The world belongs to people who take action. By taking action your faith comes alive. Any action whether it is correct or not is better than doing nothing. Learning what not to do is almost as good as knowing what to do as experience is a great teacher.
There is never a perfect time to start on an aspiration. However, the right time is always now – just take the first step of faith.
